Danger 4 - Inadequate preparation
Problem: Paint simply doesn't last: it peels, flakes, and bubbles.
Solution:
-
Time and time again it's been proven that good-quality painting is about 80% preparation and this is therefore the most important part of the painting process. Surface conditions need accurate assessment before preparing, let alone picking up a brush and painting.
-
Fully stripping back a ‘damaged' surface is the best way to get a fresh, clean, even, excellent paint job. Many a time, customers have tried to get me to simply sand, or even scrape, when full stripping is what their property needs. Taking a band-aid approach will result in your property requiring repainting more quickly. What you thought was the ‘cheaper' option, turns out to be the expensive option in the long run
A cautionary note:
Pre-1978 homes will often contain lead. Removal of lead needs to be carried out by competent people who are familiar with the correct safety equipment, health and safety policies, and who are compliant with, and who are compliant with all other official protocols and procedures in relation to this product and its removal.
